Built by Magic (Falling for Fables, #4) – A Whimsical Journey of Love and Identity

When I first stumbled upon "Built by Magic" by Jenna, I was captivated by the promise of whimsical adventures intertwined with love and self-discovery. As a long-time follower of the Falling for Fables series, I couldn’t resist diving into this latest installment that seemed to blend humor, heart, and just a dash of danger. Friends, I’m delighted to say it did not disappoint!

Right from the start, the intrigue of the Assassins’ Guild drew me in. I mean, come on—there’s something inherently sketchy about any organization that shies away from questions, right? Jenna deftly explores the moral complexities of this world, emphasizing how the greed that often accompanies power can cloud moral judgment. Is anyone truly as "bad" as they’re painted when money is on the line? This theme resonated with me deeply, prompting me to reflect on the blurred lines of right and wrong.

One of the highlights of this read was the shift in perspectives between Rune and Frida. Watching Rune juggle his attempts to surveil Frida while uncovering her layers was hilarious. When we finally switched to Frida’s viewpoint and realized she was equally bemused and masking her true self, I couldn’t help but laugh. Their mutual misunderstandings formed an adorable tapestry of tension that had me grinning from ear to ear.

Frida’s struggle with her family’s expectations, particularly with the pressure to continue their assassin tradition, tugged at my heartstrings. It was painful to witness a character so clearly unsuited for a violent life trying to meet familial demands. I wished she could see just how perfect her new life on the isle could be! Her desire to “reunite” the family feels heavy, and my empathy for her situation intensified as I read.

And let’s talk about the swoon-worthy Rune for a second. The man was a literal one-man construction team with a cat-daddy vibe—could anyone possibly resist that? I mean, who doesn’t want a man who builds furniture and offers books as gifts? My heart melted a little more with every chapter. His heartbreak was palpable, and I found myself aching to jump into the pages and yell, “Pick me! I’ll be your perfect match!” The dialogue, sprinkled with humor and charm, especially when he remarked, “I’d never make you beg, Frida,” left me giggling and blushing all at once.

The character Eldi, the dragon, brought an unexpected tear to my eye. This surprising addition had me alternating between laughter and heartache, showcasing Jenna’s knack for creating multidimensional characters. The mix of humor, emotion, and supernatural elements really made this story pop.

If you adore stories about messy families, complicated romances, or just want to experience the charming banter between characters, this book is for you. Jenna has crafted yet another enchanting tale that left me both satisfied and eager to go back to the series’ beginnings.
